Cynthia at Black-Eyed Susan was beyond amazing. We had them cater our wedding at Yesterday Spaces. Black Eyed Susan was able to take southern traditions up a notch so that even our classiest guests were still raving about the trout for days after the wedding. Cynthia was also able to incorporate fun items into our cocktail item such as a mashed potato bar that was out of this world. Black eyed Susan was also extremely professional and helpful. They helped plan all of rentals, make sure the appropriate rentals actually showed up, and her staff followed the schedule flawlessly. I have nothing negative to say about Black Eyed Susan and would recommend this caterer to everyone I know.

We can’t say enough how sweet and thoughtful Cynthia is. If you are getting married soon, you will learn that photos after the ceremony can be quite time consuming. Cynthia came over to where we were doing family portraits multiple times with passed appetizers (and beers) for us! We all appreciated this thoughtfulness so much. She also boxed up food for my new husband and me because she knew we probably wouldn’t have much time to eat during the reception. We truly can’t express how great the food and service were. The patience and kindness I experienced during the planning process from this vendor was heartfelt and very appreciated. But what blew us away was the presentation and professionalism day of! Black-Eyed Susan is TERRIFIC. Cynthia worked with us to build the perfect southern menu that reflected our vegetarian-leaning sensibilities. There are no words to describe how amazing BES is. You have to meet Cynthia and Brad and taste their incredibly delicious food to experience and capture their high level of service and creativity. From the moment I first spoke to Cynthia, I knew she was the one and that she wouldn’t let us down. She has a passion for food and and a love of people that’s reflected in her business. Cynthia and her husband are so kind, patient, understanding, and super cool. Their staff is amazing, and they are so fun to work with. Not to mention, their food is INSANE–the best chocolate chip cookies, bean burgers, salads, biscuits, goat cheese grits, bison burgers, kale–they even made us Mexican corn. Our family and friends still talk about the food…we’ll always remember it. BES is the very best- you’ll be so happy you hired them. 🙂

Cynthia was such a pleasure to work with. She was full of great ideas and helped me create a wonderful, fun menu for our wedding on the lake. She was always there to answer all of my questions and very responsive when I emailed her. I cannot say enough about how amazing Cynthia and her staff were for our wedding. Our venue was a new location for them outside of Sylva and she traveled all the way out to meet me there and even helped discuss layout and timing of events. The food was absolutely delicious and the guests raved about how fantastic it was. We even had a guest who grew up in Manhattan and told us it was some of the best she had ever had at a wedding! We were on a super strict budget since we were paying for the wedding ourselves and she helped work out everything and pick items that were tasty but affordable. Out of all of our vendors, we were the most happy with Cynthia, she certainly exceeded our expectations. I have recommended her over and over again to everyone I have met getting married near Asheville. Pick her and I promise you won’t be disappointed!

I cannot say enough about this catering company! The event was so perfect. They were so professional and the food was honestly the best food I have ever had at a wedding! We had so much food our guest were all so impressed. The price is so beyond fair. We had a plated dinner with two meats on each plate with French style green beans and au gratin potatoes. We had a cheese garlic biscuit. Yum! We had appetizers during cocktail hour which consisted of a fried bar (our guest were so impressed) and the surprise element was chicken and dumplings in 4oz mason jars that were passed. LOVE! We had a very good bartender that made sure our guest were appropriately served (this was our biggest fear, that someone would get to drunk and drive on the NC mountain roads). At the end of the night we had a bar b q slider with coleslaw on top. No one expected there would be more food. There service was awesome. It made the night go so smooth. Thank you is not enough! They were wonderful:) Also despite other reviews, Cynthia herself served us during our pictures. She was so attentive.

Where do I begin? The food? It was handcrafted, unique, Southern-style, amazing. Every guest I spoke with raved about it. The staff? I was overwhelmed by their attention to detail and friendliness. The bartenders were so awesome, they were fun, quick, had great personalities. I never had to get my own drink! If they saw I was without one they would bring me one where ever I was! Cynthia…. I can’t even properly articulate how absolutely amazing she is. She makes the experience so personal and genuine. It felt like she was just as invested into my wedding as I was. Just a joy to work with her. She puts love and passion into what she does. She is the definition of true southern hospitality.

I knew the minute we walked in to do our first consultation/tasting this was it! Cynthia was absolutely amazing to work with. She is so excited about creating custom foods for each person. She has amazing ideas and can cook literally anything! I cannot say enough great things about Cynthia as a person as well as her cooking. Not only is the presentation of the food awesome, it was delicious! We received so many compliments from our guests on the quality of food. Black-Eyed Susan also provided our bartenders who were amazing! They were so attentive and quick. One even gave my husband and I sweet marriage advice. The whole staff was so friendly and wonderful. Black Eyed Susan catered our wedding in July and we were sooo thrilled that we found them! They were so amazing that I do not feel like I can do them justice in this review. The food was wonderful! So good that people could not stop talking about it! The service was first class! The servers were not only fabulous but heartfelt and I could tell they truly did care that they were part of our big day. Cynthia and Brad were a joy to work with. The knowledge of the product, the helpful suggestions, the ease that they make you feel in the planning process was invaluable. My ability to articulate in words the incredible work done by BES will never be sufficient in this review. Working with Cynthia and Brad was such a treat. They were super flexible and really worked with me (and my mom) on our event. Two months later and people still rave to me about the food at my wedding and many have asked me to get recipes from BES. Cynthia really goes above and beyond and my greatest example is an off-hand comment I made about hating the color orange. Cynthia wanted to serve our soup out of a pumpkin so I asked if she could paint the pumpkin white. Remarkably, the day of the wedding there was a legit white pumpkin with delicious soup in it as a centerpiece in the spread of amazing food. My mother-in-law has mentioned the biscuit bar at the wedding numerous times. She was amazed at how it always seemed full and warm. Having worked as an event planner for 6 years in Florida and DC, this process was so seamless and honest to goodness the food was incredible. THANK YOU Cynthia, Brad and the BES staff for making our wedding day one to remember.

Wow! Black-Eyed Susan was phenomenal! Cynthia blew us away at our first tasting with her delicious food and warm demeanor. She was very easy to work with and clearly loves food without being snobby about it. We had an “upscale southern” menu and Black-Eyed Susan did it to perfection. Our guests loved the fried green tomato station we had for appetizers and we got several compliments on the dinner as well (the fried chicken in particular!). In addition, her wait staff were professional and prompt. I would definitely recommend Black-Eyed Susan as a caterer for a wedding — especially if you are going for good, elegant southern food.

We had more than one guest comment that the meal was the best wedding food they had ever had! Absolutely delicious. We had a dinner/buffet meal that was very elegant, with a very friendly and professional staff serving drinks and clearing tables. The linens and place settings were beautiful.
